The Popcorn Diet

The Diet:

Eat between 1000 and 1400 calories each day of regular food. If you are still hungry you can eat as much popcorn as you want.

The Experience:

I don't actually like popcorn all that much. It was difficult finding popcorn that wasn't full of calories and fat, but I eventually settled on some 100 calorie Weight Watchers popcorn. It comes in smaller bags. I ate two or so each day.

I had a bunch of leftover food from the super-foods diet so I ate salmon, lentils, and quinoa for some of my meals. Having lentils for breakfast is about three times as worse as having it any other time of the day.

Tuesday evening after practicing Aikido I was very hungry, and I had forgotten to bring home some of the popcorn, but happily discovered some chocolate in my freezer I had brought back from Ireland. This probably wasn't a good thing. Fortunately I soon ran out of chocolate and was back to eating mundane popcorn.

The most effective part of the diet is when a piece of corn gets stuck in the back of your mouth. The hours of discomfort and pain is a huge motivator to eat nothing rather than more popcorn.

The Result:

I ended up gaining back 4 pounds. Saturday I was two pounds up, and Saturday night I had a little Halloween cheer. Sunday I was 4 pounds over from the previous week, which I thought would go away through the day, but thanks to some more Halloween celebration I was the same Monday morning. Had there not been a holiday I expect I would have only gained two pounds on the popcorn diet.
