Pandora - Internet Radio

It was only very recently that I've started using Pandora. When I was self employed it wasn't necessary because I was at home and I had access to my normal music library. Since moving back into an office building I realized how much music can help pass the day.

Around the beginning of October I was ready to start listening to Christmas music (hence Hippopotami) and none of the radio stations were playing any yet, so I turned to Pandora.

In the last month that I've been using Pandora I've discovered a few things. For one thing Pandora really will ask you about every half an hour or so if you are still listening. It probably wouldn't do this if I didn't minimize the browser and do other things.

They sell audio ads in-between songs but they also have visual ads, I imagine Pandora asking me to come back is to make sure I see at least one of those ads on occasion. I can't imagine someone keeping the Pandora window open all the time. It takes me all of five seconds to read the name of the song and see what artist / album it is from. I can even absorb the five similar artists in that time. Other than that there is nothing to read (other than the sometimes insane justifications for song choices).

I have discovered there really aren't all that many Christmas songs, so Pandora will keep playing the same ones over and over. I think I have now heard ten versions of Silver Bells about 9,000,000 times. It is a good song, but maybe not that good.

This is partly my fault. In the beginning I foolishly told Pandora when I didn't like a particular song. It wasn't that I didn't like it, I just wasn't in the mood for it at that moment, too bad for me because it will never be heard again. There doesn't appear to be any way to revise my choices in the channel, also when I deleted the Christmas channel and recreated it the page showed my old history of played songs for the day, so I don't believe it refreshed my selections.
