Dieting Reflectionsposted by : Jon Kroupa on 06/07/2011
I'd like to mention a few things I've noticed since starting all this dieting.
Some people have strong convictions about their diet of choice, and they are almost offended about my lack of commitment to a single diet. Not a week goes by that people don't tell me I shouldn't be changing diets and that I need to stick to one (their favorite) for at least a month if I want to see real results. To that I say I've lost 24 pounds in 9 weeks, which is an average of 2.6 per week. I think most would say that is a healthy weight loss rate, how much more real should the results be?
I don't need nearly as much sleep as I used too. Before I started dieting, when the cruel children would call me Fatty McFatty (perhaps due to my Scottish roots), I would need 8-9 hours of sleep each night. If I got less than that I was almost worthless, I'd get headaches and I wouldn't be able to focus. Now I seem to only sleep 6-7 hours a night, and I feel perfectly fine.
At the onset of my dieting I had a lot of headaches, as my body was coming off the addiction to what I like to call "food." I haven't suffered from any headaches in the last few weeks, which means maybe I've gotten used to starvation. On Sundays I usually will eat desserts, but now when I do I feel somewhat sick afterwards. I generally prefer to not eat much on Sunday except for dinner, because I know I'll be having desserts.
Despite losing what I consider to be quite a bit of weight, I still have ample belly fat. Since pants and weight will vary from day to day I find some days I'll use the very last belt loop on my everyday belt, and other days I'll use the second to last. Therefore I have decided to only upgrade my self image from 'morbidly obese' to just 'obese'.
Finally I've noticed that my complexion has been a lot better. That may be a strange thing to say, but I really have noticed a positive difference now that I no longer consume snacks, desserts, and candy on a regular basis.
